While chopping techniques are particularly advantageous for complicated cataracts, they must be integrated with other devices and strategies. Phaco Chop, the best-selling cataract surgery book, has been revised and updated into a Second Edition to reflect the many advances over the past few years. More than half of the 30 total chapters are new. These detail strategies for complicated cases and introduce femtosecond laser nuclear fragmentation techniques.

Dr. David F. Chang is widely acknowledged as one of the best cataract surgical teachers. ASICO Launches New Intraoperative Toric Marker

ASICO Launches New Intraoperative Toric Marker

ASICO has launched a new intraoperative toric marker designed by Takayuki Akahoshi, MD, that combines gauge and marker (AE-2933), according to a company news release.

The marker has an outer diameter of 10 mm that allows for better visibility when used for patients with smaller eyes and narrow eye lids. The marker features two arrows (or pegs) placed at 0 and 180 degrees for aligning with the preoperative reference marks.
The handle is designed at an oblique angle to ensure visibility is not hampered while marking the intraoperative mark. This marker features a unique marking pattern that allows it to be used as a CCC guide by making a circular mark of 5.3mm, according to ASICO.

Nishi IOL Haptic Fixation Forceps

Nishi IOL Haptic Fixation Forceps

During the externalization of the haptics of  an IOL for scleral fixation, exact grasping the tip of the haptic is important. When it is grasped proximally of the tip, even though a little, and drawn out through the ciliary sulcus, the top of the haptic will be bent or even broken. ASICO's Nishi IOL Haptic Fixation Forceps (AE-4904) facilitates grasping the haptic tip easily and appropriately. Its top is bent and has a groove, so that it is able to grasp the haptic tip not perpendicularly but rather along the haptic. This facilitates further a more smooth externalization act leading the haptic in the aiming direction.
