Selection of the lid speculum is very important in preparing for surgery with Ziemer’s LDV Femtolaser. Good exposure is necessary for ease and proper placement of the LDV handpiece to allow for adequate applanation of the cornea before applying suction. The Miyoshi Z-LASIK Speculum has 10mm blades which open lids in a wider, hexagonal shape which better fits the LDV’s round suction ring. The speculum’s superior and inferior blades are parallel when opened to 25mm. The open-wire design allows more room for the suction ring to get down to the eye and the rounded shape of the blades under the lids is more comfortable for the patient.
