The Aguilar Sustainer is a supportive tool used during the Cataract Surgery. It is introduced through the side port and because of its squared shape it helps stabilize the nucleus perfectly at the moment of performing the fractures in the Prechop Technique. This instrument is very useful for surgeons that use different Prechop Techniques, helping them have successful surgeries. It was designed to take into account the peripheral curvature of the lens and hold it securely during the counter traction.
In regards to the Aguilar Prechop, since it has a very sharp point and sharp edge, it is ideal to break mature and hypermature cataracts making it very secure. Its small blades allow easier entry through a 2 mm incision and because of its sharp point it can penetrate moderately hard nucleus without using the sustainer but it is definitely necessary to use it with hard nucleus. The Aguilar Prechop can be utilized with small incisions of 2 mm or less.
The combination of these two instruments makes the Cataract Surgery of hypermature cataracts a very fast, secure and effective procedure.
